Ikigai

Ikigai

Ikigai

*Ikigai* means a reason for being.

What force helps you get out of bed every morning?

Ikigai is, in a way, the goal we all seek in our minds.

The Japanese believe that by finding ikigai, a person’s life purpose becomes clear and their life becomes long and valuable.

Kobayashi Tsukasa says that people can only feel true ikigai when they progress towards self-knowledge based on personal maturity, satisfaction of various desires, love and joy, getting along with others, and some sense of value in life.

But how can we find our life purpose?

To find ikigai, we need to answer these 4 questions:

1️⃣What do we like?

2️⃣What are we good at doing?

3️⃣What will we get paid for doing?

4️⃣What does the world need?

Ikigai, or life purpose, is the common point of these four questions.

What is your ikigai?!

Your ikigai, or meaning in your work life, is also something that all four of these parts share. To find it, you will have to keep looking at the lists you wrote down and wrestle with yourself. But in the end, you will find the work or thing that has the most in common with all four parts, the thing that gives the most value to your life.

  • If you are doing something that you are skilled at and good at, and it is your favorite job and you enjoy it, you are doing something that you are passionate about, meaning  you love  your job .
  • If you love what you do and the world needs it, doing it   is your mission .
  • If you do something the world needs and get paid to do it, that  ‘s your job  .
  • If what you do is needed by the world and you are skilled and good at it, you   are a professional .

But what is important is the overlap of these four pillars of love, mission, job, and profession.

Love and Mission

If your job is both a passion and a mission, you will experience a sense of joy and happiness, but there is no money in doing the work .

Love and career

If your job is the result of an overlap between love and professionalism, you’ve probably made a good deal. The problem is that this situation changes the person’s relationship with the work itself, causing it to become a low-paying job, despite the satisfaction of doing an inherently meaningful activity. And you feel useless .

Job and profession

If you only earn money from your job and profession, even if you live comfortably, over time you will feel empty because you have not understood the meaning of your life.

Job and mission

And finally, if your job is your mission, you are excited about doing your job and feel happy. The only thing that worries you is the uncertainty about your job  .
